Learn MoreFrequently Asked Questions
-
Do I live on a private road, a county road or a state highway?
This can be confusing, particularly for new residents.
The County uses a color-code system to distinguish between public and private roads.
- Public road signs are white letters on a green background.
- Private road signs are white letters on a blue background.
- State maintained roads usually have a number associated, example Route 50.
If you don’t see a sign, give us a call and we’ll try to answer your question.
-
How do I report a pothole or washout?
Submit a County Road Service request.
-
It has snowed. When will the county plow my road?
We have an established plan for plowing roads. Naturally, during extreme weather it will take us longer to complete a cycle of snow removal. There are also times when we will pull equipment off the roads for safety reasons.
-
Someone is speeding outside my house. Do you enforce speeding or parking issues?
No, the Roads Department is not an enforcement agency. Please reach out to your local police department or the Talbot County Sheriff's Department if you are experiencing excessive speeding, road blocking, illegal parking, etc on a County Road.
-
It's after hours, and we are experiencing an emergency on a County Road.
If the Roads Office is closed, and you are experiencing a Road related emergency such as flooding, washout, removed signage, etc, please contact Talbot County Emergency Services at 410-770-8160, and they can reach out to appropriate personnel to assist.
