Summary:

Reporting to the Treasury Manager, the Accounts Receivable/Tax Clerk is responsible for receiving, validating and receipting payments for County taxes and services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Provides full service to the public in regards to real estate taxes and other County fees and charges.
Receives and responds to telephone calls and waits on walk-in customers.
Receives monies by mail or in person for payment of taxes; verifies checks against billsand verifies that account numbers are on checks; balances cash, prepares required tabulations, including batching for data processing; prepares bank deposits for all monies received.
Makes change and issues receipts for monies accepted at the window; inspects checks for proper amount, date, signature and endorsement; classifies receipt and validates documents.
Prepares and maintains correspondence files for tax issues, completes follow-up work in order to process customer requests.
Receives and processes deeds for the public by researching billing files and certifying that either all liens are satisfied, or preparing duplicate bills.
Processes petty cash vouchers, issuing cash to various County employees.
Computes and compares totals on daily reports with amount of checks, currency and other forms of cash payment in register to verify balances.
Posts data to the proper accounts and balances receipts.
May complete credit card charge transactions.
Researches discrepancies in account balances by retrieving and examining original records for miscalculations or posting errors.
Corrects inaccuracies in account balances and adjusts accounting records to balance with source document totals.
Maintains accurate data by entering and updating accounts.
Assists with tax sale processes including preparation of documents for notices, advertising, sale and redemption.
Prepare deposit and outstanding checks reports for monthly bank reconciliation.
Assists other Finance Office duties and responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications:

Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
One to two years of experience reviewing, verifying, recording, adjusting and balancing financial transactions.
Knowledge of basic arithmetic such as addition and subtraction.
Must have excellent customer services skills.
Skill in identifying legal currency.
Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare precise reports.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Ability to use a computer to access, input and extract data; knowledge of Excel and Word, including setting up worksheets and other documents.
Ability to understand and follow instructions.
Ability to communicate effectively with the general public and co-workers.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers, co-workers and the general public.
