Floodplain Management Ordinance

Talbot County's Floodplain Management Ordinance is located under Chapter 70 "Floodplain Management" of the Talbot County Code Updates to Chapter 70 became effective on July 20, 2016 along with the adoption of the County's new Flood Insurance Rate Maps.

The ordinance meets all state and federal regulations and contains recommendations for improved floodplain management.  The National Floo Insurance Program requires participating counties and towns to issue permits for all development within Special Flood Hazard Areas.  Proposed develoment must not increase flooding or create a dangerous situation during flooding, especially on another surrounding properties.  If a structure is involved, the structure and its foundation must be designed, constructed, connected and anchored to resist floatation, collapse or lateral movement due to flood-induced loads and stresses.
