Talbot County owns and maintains approximately 380 miles of public roads and 9 bridges. The Maryland State Highway Administration has about 130 miles of roads and 6 bridges in Talbot County. There are also over 360 privately owned and maintained roads in Talbot County.

State roads can be identified by white, rectangular or shield shaped signs with the route number such as MD 33 or US 50.

Private roads can be identified by blue street name signs, while public roads use green name signs.

The Oxford-Bellevue Ferry has State, County and private components. The Oxford ferry dock is State, the Bellevue dock is County, and the ferry is privately owned and operated.
