Summary:

SUMMER CAMP COUNSELORS - part-time/seasonal
Talbot County Department of Parks and Recreation announces openings for the Summer Camp Program from June 15 to August 21, 2026. Camp counselors will be responsible for supervising various ages of campers while interacting in, leading and managing recreational activities. Perfect opportunity for teachers, childcare providers, college students, or older high school students! Camp runs for 9 weeks. Monday - Friday (No weekends or evenings)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Camp Counselors will perform a variety of tasks in a summer camp setting including recreation activities, arts and crafts, sports, games, and hobbies.

  • Plans and leads activities such as arts, crafts, sports, games, camping, and hobbies.
  • Enforces camp rules and regulations and ensures safety in the recreational facilities.
  • Performs first aid following prescribed procedures and contacts emergency medical personnel when required by the situation.
  • Demonstrates use of recreational equipment and teaches participants the principles, techniques, and safety procedures for each activity.
  • Greets new arrivals and introduces them to other campers; explains camp and facility rules.
  • Reports camper complaints to leadership and works to resolve issues.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Enthusiastic and positive attitude.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to learn and enforce the camps safety and operating rules.
  • Must attend staff meetings and orientation during the summer season.

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 16 years old, 18 years old or older is preferred. 
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous experience working with children preferred.
  • Must pass all reference checks and background screenings, including fingerprinting and CPS checks. 
  • CPR, AED, and First Aid Training certifications or able to obtain.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to swim and pass a swim test.
  • Able to participate in games, sports, and physical activities including water-based games and activities.
  • Able to maintain attention and high level of energy or excitement for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to spend majority the of time outdoors and tolerate a variety of weather conditions.
