At a recent meeting, the Talbot County Commission on Aging demonstrated how collaboration can create a meaningful impact for older adults and their families. A conversation between Herb Cain, Executive Director of Upper Shore Aging, and Wendy Palmer of the YMCA of the Chesapeake sparked an innovative partnership that will bring new resources and support to the community.
That comment sparked a conversation among Commission members. Wendy Palmer of the YMCA of the Chesapeake was also at the table and introduced the group to TANDEM (The Alzheimer’s “n” Dementia Encouragement Mission), a new program offering movement, music, art, and healing therapies for individuals with dementia and their care partners.
Thanks to the connection made through the Commission, Upper Shore Aging awarded funding that will allow the YMCA of the Chesapeake to expand the TANDEM program in Queen Anne’s County.
“This is exactly what the Commission on Aging is all about—bringing partners together to share resources, ideas, and solutions that enhance the quality of life for older adults in our community,” said Herb Cain.
Wendy Palmer added, “We are so grateful for this collaboration and the opportunity to expand TANDEM. This program provides encouragement, healing, and hope for individuals with dementia and their care partners, and with this support, we can reach even more families.”
The Commission on Aging continues to serve as a catalyst for community partnerships that strengthen services and opportunities for seniors throughout Talbot County.
“This is a wonderful example of what happens when organizations come together. By working collaboratively, we can connect resources to strengthen programs and ultimately benefit the older adults and caregivers we all serve.”
