On September 20, 2023, the Talbot County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Division purchased a Narcotics Detection and Tracking K-9 from K2 Solutions located in Southern Pines, North Carolina.

This purchase was made possible by a generous donation from the family above, who had the opportunity to meet and watch a demonstration of Kiwi’s talents. After a lengthy selection process, and 300 hours of training, K-9 Kiwi, a female chocolate Labrador Retriever was selected to be paired with Cpl. Mixon. Cpl. Mixon has served the community since 2013 as a Talbot County Sheriff’s Office patrol deputy.

Cpl. Mixon and Kiwi were further trained by Strike Point Consultants, completing a six-week handler course to prepare them for future enforcement activities and required certifications. In January 2024, Cpl. Mixon and Kiwi successfully completed the required three-day certification process through Wor-Wic Community College.

The course was instructed and certified by Delmarva K-9 of Pittsville, Maryland, which enables them to perform law enforcement duties in Maryland.
