Talbot County Government Issues Request for Proposals for Removal of Talbot Boys Monument from Talbot County Courthouse Green

The Talbot County Council, at their September 14, 2021 meeting, adopted an Administrative Resolution entitled “ADMINISTRATIVE RESOLUTION OF THE COUNTY COUNCIL OF TALBOT COUNTY AUTHORIZING THE RELOCATION OF THE TALBOT BOYS STATUE.” The Administrative Resolution authorizes the relocation of the entire Talbot Boys Monument from the Courthouse grounds to the Cross Keys Battlefield near Harrisonburg, Virginia and the County Council has directed County staff to carry out the provisions of this Administrative Resolution.
Accordingly, Talbot County Government has issued Bid No. 21-12, REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS – REMOVAL OF COUNTY OWNED CONFEDERATE MONUMENT FROM TALBOT COUNTY COURTHOUSE GREEN – 11 NORTH WASHINGTON STREET, EASTON, TALBOT COUNTY, MARYLAND. A copy of the bid notice and specifications has been posted to the Talbot County website: www.talbotcountymd.gov under Topics of Interest/Public Notice/Bid Notice. Additionally, the bid notice will be published in The Star Democrat on Friday, November 5th and Friday, November 12th as well as on e-Maryland Marketplace.
Sealed proposals will be accepted by the Office of the Talbot County Manager, South Wing, Talbot County Courthouse, 11 North Washington Street, Suite 13, Easton, Maryland 21601 until 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 19, 2021, at which time they shall be opened and read aloud. E-mailed or faxed proposals will not be accepted.
Talbot County, Maryland reserves the right to reject any or all proposals or to accept any proposal, or portions thereof, or to modify the Scope of Work following award, as more fully set forth in the contract documents, when in their judgment, the public will be better served.
The Cross Keys Battlefield is part of the Shenandoah Valley Battlefields Foundation, which works with partners to preserve the Shenandoah Valley’s Civil War battlefields, to share its Civil War story with the nation and to encourage tourism and travel to the Shenandoah Valley’s Civil War sites. The costs associated with the removal and relocation of the Talbot Boys Monument will be paid for through a private fund held at the Mid-Shore Community Foundation and at no
cost to the Talbot County taxpayers.
The Talbot County Council anticipates awarding Bid No. 21-12 at their meeting on Tuesday, November 23, 2021.
