On Sunday, April 26, 2026, Talbot County will proudly celebrate the 365th anniversary of its founding, alongside the nationwide commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

The day will begin at 4:00 p.m. with a ceremony on the front lawn of the Talbot County Courthouse, where the County will recognize and honor outstanding community members nominated for the Citizen and Service Awards. These individuals, volunteers, leaders, mentors, and unsung heroes represent the spirit and strength of Talbot County. The ceremony will also recognize the 2026 poster contest winners.

Following the ceremony, the celebration continues with a free, family-friendly ice cream social from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on the West Street side of the Courthouse. Designed as an old-fashioned community gathering, the event will feature bubbles, lawn games provided by Talbot County Parks and Recreation, and arts and crafts for all ages. Creative activities will be led by St. Michaels Art League and the Working Artists Forum, including a collaborative paper quilt project for participants to enjoy.

Families can also explore the “Touch-a-Truck” experience, offering an up-close look at County vehicles and equipment.

Attendees can enjoy complimentary ice cream from Scottish Highland Creamery, including special flavors created just for Talbot’s birthday. Ice cream will be served in a commemorative bowl, offering a keepsake to remember the occasion.

Live music will be provided by Janie Meneely and Rob van Sante, who will share original songs inspired by the Chesapeake Bay, along with stories and regional lore. Meneely’s return to Talbot County where she began her musical career with the group Crab Alley, adds a special hometown connection to the celebration.

In addition to the festivities, County departments will be on-site to engage with residents and share information about the services they provide. Guests will also have the opportunity to enter a drawing for special Talbot250 commemorative items.

“Talbot Day was created to celebrate God and his people who make this county special, and it’s been incredible to watch it grow over these last few years,” said Council Member Dave Stepp. “As we mark 365 years of Talbot County alongside the nation’s 250th anniversary, this event really reflects who we are…united, prosperous, and rooted in community.”

Residents and visitors alike are encouraged to bring their families, meet their neighbors, and be part of this milestone celebration.
