Emergency Services Welcomes Two New Full-Time EMTs Following Completion of Apprenticeship Program

Talbot County Emergency Services is proud to announce the successful conclusion of its apprenticeship program for two Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs), Connor Flaherty and Geovanni “Geo” Greaves. The Talbot County Public School students, who joined the department as apprentices at the beginning of the 2023 academic year, were recently hired as full-time EMTs after completing their training and passing all required exams. Talbot County is pleased to announce that Fitch Ratings has reaffirmed the county's ratings at "AAA" for both its Issuer Default Rating (IDR) and General Obligation (GO) bonds. In their press release, Fitch Ratings notes the “AAA” rating “reflects Talbot’s resilience, underscored by ample budgetary flexibility, and Fitch’s expectation that the county will sustain reserves at or above 7.5%. The county’s long-term liability profile is assessed as ‘strongest’.” Read more

Now in its eighth year, Talbot Goes Purple (TGP) is a substance use prevention program that empowers our youth and our community to ‘Go Purple’ as a sign of taking a stand against substance abuse. The initiative includes purple clubs in our middle and high schools through which students learn they do not need drugs or alcohol to meet life’s challenges. The purpose of the project is to promote the ‘new conversation’ – one that includes prescription drugs, alcohol, marijuana and e-cigarettes. Read more

On Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at approximately 3:30 p.m., the Talbot County Sanitary District (Sanitary District) was notified by a County Inspector that the ditch adjacent to the intersection of St. Michaels Road (MD Rt. 33) and Royal Oak Road (MD Rt. 329) was damp despite there no rain for several days. There was no other evidence of a sewer leak. Read more

Corrections Facility Receives Recognition of Achievement Award

An audit of the Talbot County Department of Corrections (TCDC) was conducted on September 12-13, 2023 by the Maryland Commission on Correctional Standards, Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services. After a thorough review, TCDC was found to be in total compliance with all standards of an Adult Detention Center. This is Talbot County’s second time achieving total compliance in the initial audit. On Sunday, December 19, 2021 at approximately 11:30 a.m., Talbot County 9-1-1 Center received a fire alarm notification from the Talbot County Courthouse, 11 North Washington Street, Easton. Upon arrival, fire units from Easton and neighboring fire departments found that a computer located in the Clerk of the Court’s office in the North Wing had caught fire which activated the sprinkler system in that area of the building. Effective October 1, unincorporated areas of the county were designated Class 7 by the Federal Insurance Administration’s Community Rating System (CRS). As a result, homeowners will receive a 15% discount on their insurance premiums, an increase of 5%. Talbot County was previously designated Class 8, which gave policy holders a 10% discount.
